Report: John Terry to halve his wages to stay at Chelsea

The Stamford Bridge talisman is out of contract in the summer, and may well have to take a salary cut to stay at the club according to The Daily Star.

Chelsea’s experienced English trio Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and John Terry are out of contract at the west London club this summer, with their futures yet to be determined.

Of the three, skipper Terry seems the most likely to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge after a dominant season in the side’s defence.

However, despite recently admitting that he wants an extension in the off-season, a report in the British media today suggests that he may well have to make a real sacrifice to get it.

The Daily Star indicate that Terry will be offered a new one-year deal to stay with his boyhood club – but that his £160,000 per week wages will be halved in their process.

As such, for Terry to get his wish of another season with the title-chasing Londoners he will have to reduce his earning to £80,000 per week.

With the likelihood of plenty of lucrative bumper paydays overseas in the MLS or Middle East, Terry will have a decision to make.

The Blues have already signed young French sensation Kurt Zouma, who is widely expected to be the man to replace Terry in the long run at the Premier League side.
