Reported Manchester United target William Carvalho has won Portugal’s Young Player of the Month award for April.
The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has shone for Sporting Lisbon this season, and was reportedly scouted by former United manager David Moyes’ staff upwards of 15 times prior to his dismissal.
Indeed, such was United’s apparent interest that some reports claimed a deal was already in place to bring the player with a €45million release-clause to Old Trafford this summer.
But with a new man set to take over at the club in due course, it remains to be seen if William is as admired as he reportedly was by Moyes.
But in truth, a bid should not be in question, such is the player’s undeniable talent and the fact he is exactly what United need in the centre of their team.
If Louis van Gaal does ultimately take the role, and he plays his usual formation, the holding-role could not be taken by a more promising player than the Portuguese international.
But for now United is a club swathed in mystery, not least in terms of who will be in charge, let alone which players will arrive. And in the meantime William continues to be celebrated for his consistency.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports that the player won his latest award after gaining 41.3% of the vote, which shows just how far ahead of his competition he currently is.
