Liverpool morning news: Rodgers concedes title, fresh link with Barca starlet

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Tuesday morning

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers appears to have conceded defeat in the title race after the Reds threw away a three goal lead in the last 12 minutes of the game at Crystal Palace.

Goals from Joe Allen, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez appeared to put Liverpool in charge, and they were seemingly keeping up the pressure on Manchester City at the top of the table.

The result means Liverpool return to the top of the table, a point clear of City having played a game more.

Rodgers is quoted in several newspapers saying the defeat is ‘hugely disappointing’.

He said: “Yes, the title has gone for me.

“For 78 minutes we were outstanding.

“Our defending was good but in the last 12 minutes we just didn’t defend at all.

“We ended up conceding some poor, poor goals.”

There are a couple of reports linking players to the club this morning, with further suggestions that Barcelona’s Cristian Tello could be on his way to Anfield according to the Daily Mirror.

Tello has been linked with a move to Merseyside for quite some time, and a row with Barca boss Tata Martino seems to have sparked fresh rumours that Tello could be on the move for around £8m.

Another player linked is from closer to home with Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker being linked with a move by the Daily Express.

Cardiff were relegated from the Premier League at the weekend, and Tottenham have also been mentioned in the report.

However, after Cardiff’s defeat to Newcastle United at the weekend, which relegated them to the Championship next season, Caulker said: “I signed a four-year deal here so I’ll be looking to get us back promoted next season.”
