Dortmund enter race for £20m Arsenal striker option – report

Wilfried Bony Ivory Coast

The German powerhouses are said to have one eye on Swansea’s Wilfried Bony, if a report in the British media today is to be believed.

With Arsene Wenger admitting that he will look to add a new striker to his squad this summer recently, a glut of names have been suggested as possible new faces at Arsenal ahead of next season.

One of the latest has been Wilfried Bony, with reports over the weekend that the North Londoners were running the rule over the Ivorian hitman.

The Swansea City striker has had an excellent debut campaign in the Premier League but recently admitted that he would like to play in the Champions League in the near future.

Despite Arsenal looking like the ideal destination for the burly targetman, the Gunners are said to face competition for his signature.

As well as Everton potentially looking at the African as a replacement for the outgoing Romelu Lukaku, a major European force has been added to the possible suitor list today.

The Mirror suggests that Borussia Dortmund are ready to wade into the battle for Bony, as they look to fill the void left by Bayern Munich-bound Robert Lewandowski.

Although the Signal Iduna Park side have already confirmed the signature of Adrian Ramos from Hertha Berlin, Jurgen Klopp’s men are expected to add another central attacker to their squad ahead of next term.

Given that Arsenal have ousted Everton to fourth place this term Bony would likely opt for a switch to the Emirates Stadium over a move to Goodison – but Dortmund pose a more significant opponent.

The Bundesliga side could offer the Swansea man regular first-team football at a side chasing a domestic title and prospering in the Champions League, while the Germans also have money to spend.

With Klopp preferring a 4-2-3-1 formation, Dortmund’s tactics also suit Bony down to the ground. As such, if Arsenal want the African star they face a real battle to land him this summer.
