Former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas has been linked with a sensational Barcelona exit this summer.
The 26-year-old Spanish international is currently at odds with a large section of the Catalan support, despite arguably his best season of his career.
The general census amongst the Barca support feel that Fabregas is one of the key reasons Barcelona’s famed high pressing and lightening quick passing has faded over the past couple of years.
Barcelona are evolving, becoming more direct under Gerardo Martino and whilst Fabregas has chipped in with more La Liga assists this year than any season before, the Nou Camp faithful aren’t on-board.
The English newspaper The Daily Star published a sensational story on Sunday morning, claiming that Manchester United are plotting to offer Barcelona £45m for their under-fire star and £200k-a-week wages to convince him to move to Old Trafford.
As a result of the story, Barcelona-based paper Diario Sport published an online poll asking fans whether Barca should sell Fabregas for the reported £45m - €55m in Spain - fee.
The result was shocking, as an overwhelming 84% voted in favour of cashing-in on the playmaker.
Should Manchester United make a swoop, it will be interesting to see where the Red Devils intend to use him within their starting XI.
Fellow Spanish international Juan Mata has struggled whilst moved out on the wing, and it’s hard to see either Wayne Rooney or Robin Van Persie playing out of position to accommodate another player.
With that in mind, unless Manchester United reverted Cesc Fabregas back to a central midfield role, it’s hard to see where he would fit in Man United’s XI should a headline-making transfer occur this summer.
