Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a summer transfer for Catania right-back Gino Peruzzi according to reports from Sky Italia.
The 21-year-old was close to a move to Sunderland last year when he was still on the books of Argentinian champions Valez Sarsfield. But a reported issue during the medical saw the move to the Black Cats fall through, allowing Catania to sign him later that summer.
Inside Futbol have picked up on reports from Italy that claim Tottenham have been scouting Peruzzi for some time, and have been sufficiently impressed to make a move.
Kyle Walker has been blighted by injury this season, leaving Tottenham short in that area, and with the England international’s World Cup hopes in doubt it appears his club are considering strengthening there ahead of the new campaign.
Having arrived in Italy less than 12 months ago, it Peruzzi is unlikely to come cheap. A price of £4million was touted back when Sunderland were interested, but the young player now has another season under his belt along with a long-term contract, meaning Spurs could have to pay at least double that to bring him to White Hart Lane.
Peruzzi’s man strength is his speed in both attacking and defensive areas, and having made 22 appearances for Catania this season, he will not want to join Spurs merely to act as back-up.
Now a full Argentina international, and able to play on the right wing or in central midfield when required, Tottenham appear to have their eye on a potential bargain. But his arrival could also leave Walker fighting for his place.
