Stories about Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

The latest weekend of Premier League action has come and gone with Fulham and Cardiff City relegated to the Championship while the pressure has been firmly placed on Liverpool in the title race.

Fans will be talking about what needs to be done over the summer as they prepare for a season of watching the world’s best players go head-to-head at the World Cup in Brazil.

We’ve decided to take a look back at the stories making the headlines on this day last year.

‘Guardiola eyes up Arsenal defender’

Pep Guardiola, confirmed as the man who would become new Bayern Munich boss, reportedly identified Laurent Koscielny as one of his main transfer targets.

The Frenchman has been one of the most consistent defenders at the Gunners since he joined the club and Guardiola was linked with a huge £20 million bid for him.

The move never happened and Koscielny has further enhanced his reputation as a competent defender alongside Per Mertesacker this season.

‘Mourinho backed for Chelsea’

Former Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon backed Jose Mourinho for a return to Stamford Bridge.

It was around this time last year that rumours of Mourinho’s imminent return started to gather real pace.

“You've one of the best coaches in the world, best owners and one of the best clubs, a hard combination to resist. I would need some very strong other candidates to look at,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

‘Mata scores winner, David Luiz play acting’

Juan Mata scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win for Chelsea against Manchester United.

Mata, currently a United player, showed great composure to produce the winner in a game where David Luiz enraged United supporters.

The Brazilian defender was caught laughing at United fans as he faked an injury following a challenge from United defender Rafael.

‘Rodgers wants more quality’

Brendan Rodgers said he needed more quality in his Liverpool squad.

Rodgers was frustrated after a 0-0 draw against Everton in the Merseyside derby and told the BBC that he wanted to improve the options and quality in his first team squad.

Rodgers made several signings last summer and the Reds are still in with a shout of the Premier League title this season.
