Chelsea morning news: Mourinho offers Cole hope, keeps one eye on Varane

Stamford Bridge Inside

A round up of news stories this morning about Chelsea.

Speculation over Ashley Cole’s future rolls on after the player was in tears after yesterday’s game against Norwich City.

Cole was visibly upset as he strolled round the Stamford Bridge pitch in a lap of honour.

“Again, they are with the club on their future. I think they will play here [for Chelsea] again. I think so,” said Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho continues to be linked with making a move for Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.

The French centre-back has struggled to get game time this season and Mourinho is reportedly considering a summer swoop for the defender.

Varane is a player that Mourinho once described as the best young defender in global football.

Chelsea could face competition from London rivals Arsenal in the race to sign Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa.

Costa has been strongly linked with a move to the Blues and some sources suggested last week that Jose Mourinho’s side were close to a deal.

However, the Mirror has suggested Arsene Wenger could now be interested as he seeks attacking reinforcements for his own squad.
