Former footballer turned Bundesliga journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft has dismissed claims Manchester United will sign Arjen Robben from Bayern Munich this summer.
The Dutch attacker is reportedly at the top of Louis van Gaal's wish-list if he arrives at Old Trafford, but Fjortoft was quick to dismiss the link when questioned about it on Twitter.
The Sky Germany pundit has often been one of the first to break news related to the German league, but in response to the Robben rumours he said, 'Why don't we just link Bayern to Man United?'
Considering that Thomas Muller, Toni Kroos and Dante have also been linked with the English side in recent months, it certainly appears that more and more of Pep Guardiola's team are finding their way into the gossip columns.
But of Robben, Fjortoft was emphatic in his response:
'So Bayern just extend Robben's contract then they want to sell him to Man United. Exactly how Bayern have built a great club! NOT.'
Indeed the Dutch international only put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension at the end of March. And considering his huge importance to the team it would make little sense if they then sold him, no matter how much van Gaal may want him at Old Trafford.
But for now United should focus on getting their next boss in place, and then look at transfer targets who can end their recent woes. You just sense that Robben will be out of their reach.
