Swedish midfielder Kim Kallstrom will not be pursued in the summer.
Arsenal fans had high expectations during the January Transfer Window. The club are usually frugal in the winter but they broke rank with a deal for Mesut Ozil in September - so fans were hoping of a potential repeat.
They were particulary keen to see a new striker arrive at the club - to help out the clearly tiring Olivier Giroud.
But what they didn’t expect is what they got … Kim Kallstrom.
The Swedish midfielder was probably not needed at the club, but Arsene Wenger was keen on bringing in the Spartak Moscow man to add some depth to the club - so snapped him up on loan until the end of the season.
And it has not been a very successful spell at the club.
Kallstrom was injured from the get-go, and a serious back injury saw him on the medics table for the majority of his stay.
The 31-year-old has played just 135 minutes of football for the Gunners in his six month spell and despite impressing when he has featured - it is probably not enough to convince anyone he has been nothing short of a flop.
The big question is, will Arsenal try and keep him?
He is only on loan, so Arsenal have no obligation to keep hold of him, and that is pretty much what is going to happen.
Arsene Wenger has now confirmed that Kallstrom will leave Arsenal this summer. When asked about his future the Frenchman stated:
“He is on loan, so he belongs to Moscow and will go back to Moscow.”
He will be departing along with Nicklas Bendtner, Lukas Fabianski and it looks like Bacary Sagna - who had an emotional lap of honour after today’s last game of the season at the Emirates Stadium.
