The Daily Star reports that Manchester United are plotting a sensational £45m bid for Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas.
The former Arsenal playmaker has endured a difficult time this season at the Nou Camp, with the Catalan faithful often singling out Fabregas for harsh criticism - even though he is enjoying arguably his best season since his big-money move from Arsenal in 2011 (he is currently in third place in La Liga’s assist charts with 12).
Regardless of his form, however, the Barcelona faithful aren’t convinced, and in a recent poll undertaken by the Spanish press, 50% of fans want the star sold this summer.
Arsenal - and possibly Manchester City - are thought to have the player on their wish-lists, but it's Manchester United who are now thought to be the most serious about obtaining his signature.
Manchester United are expected to spend big this summer – to the tune of perhaps as much as £200m - with Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller, Matt Hummels and Kevin Strootman all thought to be in the club's sights - whoever the new manager turns out to be.
With Fabregas looking likely to be available this summer, the Daily Star reports that Manchester United are preparing a £45m bid, and would offer the Spanish international £200,000 a week in a bid to bring him back to the Premier League and strengthen their midfield.
The 27-year-old – who celebrates his birthday today – still has the best years of his career ahead of him, and a move to Old Trafford to help Manchester United quickly return to former glories might be too appealing to turn down.
