Sunday rumour mill: Chelsea enter race for Arsenal striker target

Mario Mandzukic Bayern

The Daily Star indicates that the Blues are interested in signing Gunners-linked Mario Mandzukic this summer.

Both Chelsea and Arsenal are expected to splash the cash this summer to bring a new centre forward to their respective sides, with a number of high-profile strikers linked with the London giants.

Mario Mandzukic has long been linked with a move to Arsenal, as the Croatian hitman looks set to be replaced at Bayern Munich by Robert Lewandowski.

However, according to The Daily Star, Arsene Wenger’s men have competition for the eastern European marksman’s signature in the form of Chelsea.

The Blues need a prolific striker duo to the inconsistent form of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o this term.

Although Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa is said to top Jose Mourinho’s wish list, the report today states that the Stamford Bridge side are ready to enter the battle to land Mandzukic.

The 27-year-old has netted 18 Bundesliga goals so far this term but his future is a point of contention given Lewandowski’s impending arrival.
