Spurs set to offer Townsend to Southampton to bring Lallana to WHL

Tottenham are looking to tempt the Saints into parting with their captain by offering one of their own England talents plush cash for the playmaker.

With Tottenham's season coming to rest in either sixth or seventh position, one or two less than they finished last year, Daniel Levy is surely keen to put in place some transfer plans to improve the starting lineup.

And according to the Mirror, the Spurs boss is willing to sacrifice one of his homegrown England talents to bring in a player also likely to be featuring for the Three Lions this summer.

Tottenham have long been interested in Adam Lallana, alongside both Manchester United and Liverpool, and with the Saints interested in Andros Townsend the Londoners were hoping a swap deal might be on with the South Coast side.

The Mirror go on to say that a move is unlikely because Lallana is set to join Liverpool, but it is evidence that someone like Townsend is ready to be sacrificed to bring in new bodies.

It comes after a disappointing season for the winger, whose year started really brightly with strong displays at the Lane and for England, but then faded out after a series of injuries interrupted his spell in the first team.

This week it took a turn for the worse with the news that an ankle injury sustained in the game with Stoke has ruled him out of any possible World Cup action.

Lallana on the other hand has been superb, proving to be the quality hinge that his side has played off all season and netting 10 times across all competitions.
