Chelsea youngster Lucas Piazon has dropped a big hint over his future after he said goodbye to Vitesse Arnhem fans yesterday.
The Brazilian midfielder has been on loan this season at the Dutch club and Tweeted thanks to fans of the Eredivisie side where he has been developing, securing 11 goals and eight assists from all appearances in the Dutch league.
Piazon’s Tweets had an air of finality around them which suggests his future is now likely to take one of two paths.
Arnhem and Vitesse's Fans will be Always in my heart. Thank you Vitesse. https://t.co/sPevXFaOQo— Lucas Piazon (@LucasPiazon) May 3, 2014
He’ll either be drafted back into the first team fold at Chelsea next season or he’ll be sold this summer to any side looking for a talented creative midfielder with the cash to do a deal.
The option of being used by Jose Mourinho at Chelsea is possible.
The sale of Juan Mata earlier in the season means there is a gap in the current Chelsea squad, with Oscar having no back up as the number ten at the moment, other than when Eden Hazard is moved back inside.
In terms of teams that could purchase him, it’s impossible to know more until sides start making offers.
However, Liverpool have previously been strongly linked with signing him and Brendan Rodgers may jump at the chance to get another talented forward thinking midfielder into his team.
That would allow Steven Gerrard to consolidate in a slightly deeper position across the middle, prolonging his career.
The staying at Chelsea option also gains weight through the length of Piazon’s current contract.
It doesn’t expire until the summer of 2017 and while that deal was signed when Mourinho wasn’t at the club for his second spell, it’s a sign the club believes in his talent and potential.
It’s been a good loan season for Piazon and fingers crossed for the 20-year-old and Chelsea fans that he gets a chance to prove himself at the Bridge next year.
