Everton may not have had the end to the season that they were hoping for, but they should not be disheartened. It has still be an outstanding effort in Roberto Martinez's debut campaign and on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku has played a huge part in that.
The Belgian front-man took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon to thank the Toffees fans for their support over the campaign, despite the fact that there is still one match to go.
That game is away to Hull City next weekend, so the Goodison Park faithful's last memory of a home game for some time will be the humdinger against Manchester City that proved Everton are not far off challenging the very best in England on a regular basis.
Lukaku scored yet again in that match, taking his tally for the season to 15 goals in all competitions. And while his future remains unknown, you can be sure Martinez will do all he can to take the 20-year-old back next season.
But that is a story for another day. For now Lukaku is clearly grateful for the support he and his teammates have received over the course of the campaign.
'Thank you for your wonderful support throughout the season,' Lukaku wrote on his official Instagram page.
'Your support means a lot to us players and it brought us a lot of joy and strength. God bless you all.'
Whether that turns out to be the last time Lukaku addresses the Everton fans, only time will tell.
