The list of candidates to replace Nemanja Vidic at Manchester United continue to grow, with a central defender of considerable quality needed to fill the giant Serb’s boots.
The Old Trafford side have been linked with a move for Athletic Bilbao’s highly rated defender Aymeric Laporte in the past, who would certainly fit the bill in Manchester.
However, with the Basque club qualifying for next season’s Champions League already, the 19-year-old defender has stated that he has no intention of leaving San Mames.
“We played really well as we have been doing all year,” he told reporters, published in Sport.
“This is a great day for the club, and we’re delighted to be in the Champions League next season.
“[Coach Ernesto] Valverde has helped a lot. He’s given me a lot of confidence and has helped me grow a lot quicker than I would have otherwise.
“I want to focus on playing in the Champions League with Athletic. I won’t talk about anything else.
“I’m not focused on rumours.”
Barcelona have also been heavily linked with a move for the young Frenchman, who has been a rock in the centre of Bilbao’s defence this season.
