The Manchester United winger could have opted to represent Albania, Kosovo, Turkey or Serbia due to family ties, but picked the Central European nation last month.
Torino goalkeeper Jean-Francois Gillet, who has nine caps for Belgium, has criticised Januzaj’s choice of timing and stated that the United star will have the World Cup in mind.
“To announce that now you choose Belgium, I just think comme ci, comme ca,” the goalkeeper told Het Nieuwsblad.
“He would have been a great man if he had made his choice after the World Cup.
“Maybe he smelled his chance if there was pressure from Belgium. But if you decide that now, I just have to smile.”
Belgium coach Marc Wilmots has recently confirmed that Januzaj will be in the pre-tournament squad and is likely to make his international debut in an upcoming friendly.
Most Belgian players have been supportive of the United man’s choice, but Kevin Mirallas has been outspoken in saying that Januzaj should not be selected.
