Chelsea have been told to forget about signing Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric according to a report from Goal.
The Croatian international was heavily linked with a move to the Blues last month, with one report claiming Jose Mourinho was willing to include Oscar in a possible swap-deal.
That suggestion seemed somewhat fanciful, given the Brazilian’s ability and regard at Stamford Bridge. But reports continued to suggest that Modric was seen as an ideal summer signing by the Portuguese boss.
However, the latest report claims Chelsea “have been told they have no chance” of signing the former Tottenham Hotspur man after enquiring about the possibility of securing what the report calls their "perfect fit".
The report suggests that Modric would be tempted by a move back to London, but that he is happy in Madrid.
He certainly took some time to settle in the Spanish capital after his big-money move from White Hart Lane. But he is now an integral part of Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Modric has made 47 appearances for the La Liga side this season, scoring two goals and providing eight assists in the process. He has also shone having previously been unfairly dubbed one of the worst signings of last season.
How things change – and how far Chelsea appear to be from securing a player who could help them reclaim the Premier League and European crowns.
