Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has commented on the ongoing speculation linking Shinji Kagawa with a return to the German club.
The Manchester United play-maker has featured more prominently in his second season at Old Trafford, and yet still the suggestion remains that they will look to sell him in the summer.
Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the Japanese international and Mats Hummels recently went on record to say that he and his teammates would welcome Kagawa back “with open arms”.
But Watzke appears to have other ideas, as in quotes published by Der Westen he said when questioned about the rumours, “We have worked with Marco Reus as a number 10 which…everyone is talking about. And we have Henrikh Mkhitaryan who can also play there. Would then a third number 10 still make sense?”
The answer is obvious, as United have discovered themselves with Kagawa competing for game-time with Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata who occupy similar positions.
So it seems Dortmund will not be bidding for Kagawa this summer or as long as they have both Reus and Mkhitaryan. But then given that the former has been strongly linked with a move to United let the rumours continue...
