It has been a tortuous week for Eden Hazard. He received plenty of blame for his role, or lack of it, in the defeat against Atletico Madrid - and even Jose Mourinho joined in.
The Chelsea boss was critical of the Belgian wizard after the game, telling media in his press conference on Friday:
"Eden is the kind of player that is not so mentally ready to look back to his left-back and to leave his life for him. If you see the first goal of Atlético you completely understand where the mistake was and why we conceded that goal. I'm not happy. I speak all season and I try to improve him all season."
As a result Hazard’s future at the club appears to be in doubt - despite winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award this season.
The dribbling aficionado has long been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, as they continue to build a supremely talented selection of players.
But would he move back Ligue 1? Probably not, and the impact of the FFP regulations on PSG are being felt this summer meaning they will have to be more frugal in the future.
So Hazard is surely going to stay unless another big team comes in for him.
Up step Barcelona.
El Mundo Deportivo report today that Hazard has become one of the big targets at the club in what will be a summer of rebuilding in Catalonia.
Hazard, who has compared himself to Barca legend Lionel Messi in the past, is reportedly one of their number one targets - with Barca seeing him playing in the advanced role that Andres Iniesta often does as part of a front three.
And with Mourinho already sending one player who didn’t fit in his plans, Juan Mata, out of the door - could Hazard follow?
