Report: Chelsea say no to Roma's Lukaku bid

Romelu Lukaku

The Italian press believe that Chelsea have turned down a request from Roma to take Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku on loan.

It seems increasingly likely that Chelsea will bring Romelu Lukaku back to base for next season, as reports circulate that Roma's attempt to sign the Belgian on loan have failed.

Lukaku has made a good case for a Stamford Bridge chance with 13 goals in 29 games while on loan at Everton, but his future remains up in the air.

Chelsea continue to be linked with various big-money signings, including Diego Costa and Edinson Cavani, while Fernando Torres is tipped to join Inter.

Il Messaggero reported last week that Roma intended to bring Lukaku to Serie A on a season-long loan and had entered talks with Chelsea.

But, according to the Corriere dello Sport, the latest reports suggest that Chelsea rejected the advances of Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini.

The paper quotes an unnamed source stating that Chelsea are 'counting on Lukaku for next season' and won't consider letting him leave.

It is suggested that Jose Mourinho wants to keep Lukaku for a starting rotation that could also include one of Cavani or Radamel Falcao.

Roma may have to look elsewhere to find a new marksman, which has been one of the missing ingredients that cost them a shot at the Scudetto.
