Jay-Jay Okocha was one of the Premier League’s more mercurial talents and he one almost single-handedly ended an Arsenal title tilt with a performance for Bolton Wanderers that made Arsene Wenger’s defence look like amateurs at the Reebok Stadium.
But nowadays his nephew Alex Iwobi is hoping to be starring for Arsenal in the future - not against them.
He turns 18-years-old this weekend - and faces the dreaded possibility of being moved on at the end of the season, as so many are at his age.
But that will apparently not be the case.
According to this from Arsenal Fixture News on Twitter…
EXCLUSIVE: Our U18 star Alex Iwobi, who turns 18 tomorrow, will sign a new 2 year contract next week to further develop his Arsenal career.— Arsenal Fixture News (@AFCFixtureNews) May 2, 2014
The Tweet has been re-tweeted by Arsenal youth expert Jeorge Bird - so that gives it added credence - so it looks as though Arsenal are definitely looking to give him a chance of progressing into the first team.
An attacker, who can play across the attacking midfield area, he has had some big moments in his career this season.
He was called up to the squad for the League Cup tie against West Bromwich Albion at the start of the season. He has made ventures into the Under-21s this campaign, represented England at under-18 level and scored a memorable goal against Charlton Athletic in the FA Youth Cup.
He faces a huge task, beating many other top names trying to make the breakthrough to the Arsenal first-team, but at least he has Premier League football in his blood.
Time will tell if he can live up to his uncle’s legacy.
