Atletico Madrid reached the Champions League final for only the second time in their history, largely in part to the fabulous team spirit which boss Diego Simeone has generated.
The Rojiblancos have grown in stature and are now on the verge of a historic La Liga and Champions League double, but don’t be fooled by the quality within their squad.
Despite not boasting the world’s top names, Atletico Madrid have a host of top quality players, no more so than Diego Costa, Filipe Luis and Manchester United target Koke.
22-year-old midfielder Koke was reportedly watched by Man United scouts at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, and his materclass in possession and creativity will have left potential suitors purring.
Barcelona midfielder Xavi recently told the Spanish press that Koke is his natural heir in the Spanish national team, but without being disrespectful to the Catalan ace, Koke is now at a higher level than his idol.
Manchester United have long been admirers of the player, and the Red Devils will have to part with a hefty €60m if they wish to activate his release clause and start negotiations.
Atletico boss Diego Simeone, however, has warned Manchester United and any other onlookers that his star player loves the club and hints that he has a big future ahead of him at the Vicente Calderon stadium.
“Koke has enormous growth. Each time a game advances he becomes more of a leader of both the ball and the match. He is ours, he loves the club and he has a big future ahead of him.” The Argentine boss said, quoted by AS.
Koke currently lies second in La Liga’s assist table with 13, one behind Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria.
With wins over midtable sides Levante and Malaga in their next two league matches, Koke and his teammates will become La Liga title winners before their final match away at Barcelona.
