I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 2nd May 2014, but a year earlier.
What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?
Here are some of the big scoops from the 2nd May 2013…
Return of Cesc
A year ago today and Cesc Fabregas was talking about a potential return to Arsenal in the summer. The Spaniard left Arsenal for his Catalan homeland in the summer of 2012 - but he was already being linked with a potential return.
And he was coy when questioned on his future:
“I do not know what is being said and even what is written. I can only say that I alone know my own future.”
A year down the line and fresh reports are linking the former Arsenal captain with a return to The Emirates as his position at Barca increasingly comes under scrutiny.
Here comes the Special One
The Sun claimed a WORLD EXCLUSIVE on the return date of Jose Mourinho - although it was not exactly shocking news, just poor estimation work really.
They said that Jose would be back at Chelsea on July the 1st as if became clear he would be leaving Real Madrid and taking over from interim boss Rafa Benitez at Stamford Bridge.
Unfortunately The Sun were actually wrong. Mourinho officially started work as Chelsea manager for his second term on the 10th June 2013 - so they weren’t even close.
Shop for Klopp
Sir Alex Ferguson had not yet announced a plan to retire - but the papers already decided who his successor would be.
It was reported that Jurgen Klopp had been made United’s number one target to replace Sir Alex when he decided to step down.
Of course it proved false, David Moyes got the job.
But a year on and they would certainly love to have Klopp at the helm - but he has bequeathed his future to his beloved Dortmund.
