Just weeks into his first top-flight campaign, Jorginho’s name already started featuring heavily in transfer columns spanning Europe.
After winning promotion from Serie B with Hellas Verona last season, the 22-year-old set out on taking the Italian first division by storm this term with seven goals and three assists for the Bentegodi outfit.
In the autumn Chelsea were said to be scouting the Brazilian-Italian, while Liverpool emerged as strong contenders for his signature alongside wealthy Russian side Zenit St Petersburg.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers was believed to be particularly keen on bolstering his options in the centre of the park with Jorginho, but ex-Liverpool head coach Rafael Benitez had different ideas.
The Spaniard stole a march on his former club to snatch the highly-rated youngster for himself and bring him to Napoli, despite a reported last-ditch attempt from Liverpool.
Only four months on, and Metro have reported that Arsenal met with Jorginho’s agent to negotiate a summer move to the Emirates.
However, that same agent - Joao Santos - sat down with Italian journalist Raffaele Auriemma this week and said some things that directly contradicted this claim.
Santos said: 'He is happy here with everyone. Who he plays with in midfield does not matter, all he is thinking about is doing his best to make sure he is a starter. I never talk to Jorginho about his private life but I know he is happy and has respect for Rafa Benitez.
'Hopefully on Saturday [the Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina] but I will not be judging his season with Napoli. The real beginning of Jorginho’s time at Napoli will be in June. These four months have been good for his acclamitisation'.
Are these the words of an agent negotiating a quick exit to Arsenal? Not even close.
Jorginho - who signed a contract at the San Paolo running until 2018 in January - doesn’t appear to be leaving Napoli any time soon.
