Sagna to City? Here's 5 facts on alleged replacement Daryl Janmaat

Sagna

A right back in Arsenal's cross-hairs has made himself available in the same week Bacary Sagna to Manchester City rumours resurface.

The longer Bacary Sagna goes without renewing terms with Arsenal, the likelier it appears that he will walk away from the club on a free transfer, to a club who can offer him a more handsome financial package - Manchester City.

Reports this morning, from the Daily Mail and Manchester Evening News, both emphasise City's mounting interest in an accomplished and Premier League proven full back.

For a buying club, Sagna - worth £10.5m according to transfermarkt.co.uk - would represent excellent value for money as there is no transfer fee involved and, even if they bowed to his salary demands of £100,000 per week for a three year duration, the total spend on the Frenchman would be £15.6m.

For Arsenal, they may already be scouting the planet for his replacement, with Calum Chambers from Southampton a possibility and Feyenoord full back Daryl Janmaat also mooted.

Here are 5 facts on Janmaat…

1): He is available…

Valued at £4.4m by transfermarkt.co.uk, Janmaat obviously lacks the England experience of Sagna, but represents a cheaper solution than providing Bacary with the deal he is demanding. Janmaat's Feyenoord deal expires in one year and he has gone public with his desire to leave, which could reduce his transfer fee. "It could be that this was my last home game," he told Voetbal International after helping the club to a 5-1 win over SC Cambuur.

2): Commendable statistics…

In Eredivisie competition, Janmaat has been responsible for 79 tackles from 30 appearances. That's one every 33 minutes on average. Sagna, meanwhile, has contributed 55 tackles from 32 Premier League starts. The Frenchman, though, is more effective at clearing the football, tallying 156 in this department - far superior to Janmaat's haul of 89 clearances.

3): In-demand…

Arsenal are not the only club interested in the 24-year-old defender. Janmaat, despite claiming he has no preference to what league he ends up competing in, has done enough this season to attract multiple clubs from the Premier League to his talent, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur both monitoring the situation.

4): World Cup focus…

Janmaat has already indicated that his primary focus is the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where he is desperate to perform well with the Oranje. While this means that any transfer may not be ratified until mid-July, it does mean Premier League fans will be able to assess the Dutchman for anywhere up to seven matches, depending on how far the Netherlands national football team goes.

5): van Gaal link…

Do not be surprised if Janmaat becomes linked with Manchester United should Louis van Gaal be appointed the next boss at Old Trafford. While the player developed into the talent he is at Feyenoord, arriving on a free transfer from SC Heerenveen to become the defensive stalwart and attacking threat he presently represents, it was van Gaal who gave him his Holland debut.
