Frank De Boer may be in the final few weeks of his highly-successful spell with Ajax but if the Dutch coach is to depart the club this summer he has done so on a high, as a video showcasing the club’s title celebrations suggests.
But while the Dutchman spoke candidly in an interview with a television channel in his homeland, confirming that Spurs had made an approach, the club has subsequently moved to quash such rumours leaving everyone a little perplexed.
However, in something of a unique twist, it was the player who could yet join him at White Hart Lane, Daley Blind, who chronicled the Ajax celebrations that came after the team secured a fourth consecutive Eredivisie title.
Son of club legend Danny Blind, the marauding full-back is believed to be a prime target for Tottenham, with the North London club keen to bolster their defensive options.
De Boer’s arrival would certainly boost the chances of the 24-year-old moving to the Premier League and the Lilywhites, with the Ajax manager a keen admirer of the defenders talents.
They certainly appear to get on like a house on fire in the newly-posted video, which highlights the avid support the pair could be leaving behind with a move to the capital.
However with Tottenham enjoying similarly strong backing from their fans, should the player and manager deliver success and Champions League football to the club, then we may see similar scenes of celebration in the centre of London this time next year.
In the meantime, Spurs and current manager Tim Sherwood are focused on their next Premier League clash, which pits them against West Ham United in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Blind, meanwhile, is preparing to represent Holland at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
