The on-loan Queens Park Rangers player was previously keen on a Premier League move and could return to English shores this summer.
Stephan M’Bia could make a surprise return to the Premier League after turning around a career that was in danger of stalling at Queens Park Rangers but looks back on course after a series of all-action displays for La Liga outfit Sevilla.
The 27-year-old was the star of the show for the Andalusians in the Europa League, scoring for a second consecutive game in continental competition to secure a place in the final of the tournament at the expense of Valencia.
Having already found the net against Los Che in Seville, the defensive midfielder left it late to help the La Liga club snatch a place in the final in Turin, with a towering header in stoppage time.
It proved to be a crucial one, with Sevilla advancing on away goals having won the first leg 2-0 and following that up with a 3-1 victory away from home.
And while his future in La Liga remains in the balance, having played a bit part role for the Spanish side this term, the two goals could be enough to see a number of the player’s former suitors in the Premier League turn their attention to a summer move.
Chief among these interested parties is Aston Villa, with the Clarets keen to recruit the Cameroonian, who is capable of playing in either defense or midfield – something that would undoubtedly endear him to manager Paul Lambert.
But with Villa continuing to flirt with the drop, relegation could see the Midlands club’s chances of landing the player fade fast, with Swansea ready and waiting to take up the baton.
The Swans were chief among those tracking M’Bia following QPR’s relegation from the English top-flight and we could yet be set for a bidding war between the two clubs as Rangers owner Tony Fernandes looks to recoup some of the fee paid for the player.
