Every time Atletico Madrid got on themselves on the score-sheet during Wednesday evening's eventful Champions League semifinal second leg against Chelsea, it was met with an excitable "siiiiiiii!", or "yess!!!!", or "vamos!!!!! vamos!!!!! :)))))", on the social media account of a Liverpool footballer.
Out of action since November due to a problematic knee injury, Jose Enrique - who transferred to Liverpool from Newcastle United in 2011 after stints in Spain with Villarreal and Valencia, saw his current club fall to two goals after Chelsea employed defensive tactics that have since been the focus of much media attention.
Like at the weekend at Anfield, there was a winning margin of two goals at Stamford Bridge last night, yet Chelsea were on the losing end of it as Atletico dumped the Blues out of Europe and progressed themselves to the final, setting up an all Madrid showdown with local rivals Real.
For Enrique, the result was a comeuppance. A justice. As the left back, a 28-year-old League Cup winner, claimed that: "this is what happens when you don't play football".
His comments will no doubt fire up a simmering rivalry between the two powerhouses of English football…
