Manchester United latest: Van Gaal update & Fabregas fight

Louis Van Gaal

News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal could be announced as Manchester United manager ‘within days’, according to reports.

It is believed the club are keen to make an appointment before the World Cup finals in Brazil this summer.

These reports followed a ‘delay’ in announcing the Dutch squad for the World Cup, leading to speculation that Van Gaal may have other matters on hand at present.

Meanwhile, former United striker Louis Saha believes that the club should ‘take a chance’ on Ryan Giggs, who is currently managing the team on an interim basis.

'It's a great opportunity for him. He definitely has the quality, he has the character, the strength and the charisma. There's no doubt about that', explained Saha.

United legend Andy Cole believes that David de Gea should be in the running for Player of the Season at Old Trafford.

'Since that difficult first season I think he has been absolutely phenomenal. He has kept United in more than enough games this season and last season', he said.

United take on Sunderland away from home on Saturday with more team news to follow tomorrow following Giggs’ Friday press conference.

In transfer news, M.E.N. reports that Manchester City could ‘hijack’ United’s plans to sign Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona this summer, with the former Arsenal captain reportedly out of favour at his boyhood club.

Meanwhile, out-of-favour striker Javier Hernandez could move to Aston Villa in the summer, according to The Mirror.

Elsewhere, United are ‘considering’ a loan move for Nick Powell to Wigan Athletic next season, according to the Daily Mail.

In other news, Manchester United have banned a fan from attending away games after he was caught bringing alcohol into St James’ Park to watch the Red Devils against Newcastle.

Jamie Bazley had the can of beer unopened in his bag when he tried to enter the stadium and, as a lifelong supporter of the club, he now feels aggrieved by the action taken against him.
