Arsenal may well have found their next Patrick Vieira figure to come and step into Arsene Wenger’s midfield.
The club have been scouting 19-year-old Rennes holding midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, who has made a big impact at the Ligue One side in his first season in Ligue One football.

He’s already played for the French international youth teams at multiple levels and cuts an imposing figure in front of his current defensive back four.
He’s a highly talented player that French football based website French Football Weekly rates very highly and a star they gave a glowing report to in their assessment of the best young players in France; a guide called Le50.
“His best position is sitting just in front of the defence where he can easily break up attacks and get counter-attacks started. His defensive work is impressive and his tackling ability really makes him stand out,” reads the guide.
However, there are potential problems on the horizon should the Gunners try and do a deal for him this summer.
The guide points out that he’s one of the most popular players at his current club and the guide also suggests he’s one of the most effective players in Ligue One when it comes to breaking up the play.
He also only signed a new three-year contract earlier this season, which will not only push up his price but makes him less likely to push for a move away just as he’s settling into a steady run of first team games, which will increases his chances of playing first team football in the future.
“He has already established himself as a firm favourite amongst the Rennes fans who
love seeing a home-grown talent make it.”
“Having made such a terrific start to the season it came as no surprise to see Bakayoko awarded a new three-year contract in November. Rennes clearly want to keep hold of their young star, and not lose him.”
He’s a player Arsene Wenger clearly rates otherwise the club wouldn’t have started scouting him but he’s a youngster that it may be better for Arsenal to leave for another season as he continues to progress.
There will always be that pressure for another great, dominant Patrick Vieira figure in Arsenal’s midfield and this lad certainly ticks a lot of boxes.
