Fleming was jailed in 1989 after he was convicted of shooting dead his friend Darryl 'Black' Rush in Brooklyn.
He was exonerated after it was proved he was 1,100 miles away in Disney World, Florida, at the time of the murder.
The injustice was all the more egregious for it emerged that the key piece of evidence that cleared the 52-year-old had been in the prosecution's case files the whole time.
But it was Fleming's optimism at his release, and his refusal to let anger at the iniquity of his prosecution overcome him, that inspired Sutaru to do something to help.
The banker told ABC News reporter Caterina Andreano: 'This is somebody that wasn’t guilty of a crime; he was wrongfully convicted.
