Leeds United could be set for an influx of Serie A stars as reports from Italy suggest several Cagliari players could move to the Championship club.
Midfielders Sebastian Eriksson, Andrea Tabanelli and winger Victor Ibarbo have been the first names to be linked with a move to Yorkshire. However, the Italian media believe that could just be the start of a major influx.
Although Eriksson and Tabanelli haven't played much for Cagliari, the Colombian international, Vitor Ibarbo, is renowned by many as one of their brightest talents. In fact, this season he could finish as the club's fourth highest goalscorer.
Local supporters of Cagliari have already voiced their concerns with Cellino's apparent plan and fear he'll take their clubs brightest and best before selling up. This theory was thrown out by former Cagliari striker Mauro Esposito, who claimed Cellino's priority is still the Sardinian outfit.
'I don't know what the president will do in the future, but the one thing that is certain is that he has done his best for Cagliari,' said Esposito.
'Cellino has always kept the team at a high level and the possible sale of players should be seen as a normal thing.'
'It's in the DNA of Cagliari for talents to explode and then sell them. All this, however, without affecting the quality too.'
'Cellino's first desire is, in fact, always to have Cagliari in Serie A.'
For Leeds United supporters, however, the situation will leave the fans split down the middle. Many supporters of Leeds, just like supporters at other Championship clubs, were quick to point the finger at Watford for doing something similar, yet could now could follow the same path.
The likes of Ibarbo in normal circumstances would be seen as a very exciting edition to the Leeds United side. A player who, on paper, could be the difference for them in a promotion push. Nevertheless, there will be opposition from some supporters due to the nature of the potential transfer.
