John Obi Mikel's agent has rubbished talk that his client could leave Stamford Bridge this summer, claiming Mikel is a 'fighter'.
Earlier in the month, the London Evening Standard reported Inter Milan was leading the £10m race to land Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel in the summer transfer window. However, the player's agent has reiterated the Nigerian international will stay at Stamford Bridge this summer and fight the likes of Nemanja Matic and Ramires for his place in the Chelsea team.
"It's all part of the transfer speculations,' said Olatunji John Shittu.
"As far as I am concerned, there is nothing like that. It's just a rumour. We heard a similar thing that he was doing to Galatasaray last season. Mikel is a fighter who will like to stay on and fight for his place at Chelsea."
The 27-year-old has been at Chelsea since 2006, following on from a controversial transfer saga which involved Manchester United.
Since then, the Nigerian has been a constant performer in the Chelsea team and has made over 300 appearances in a eight-season spell at the club.
He has wrote himself into the history books at Stamford Bridge, largely due to playing an instrumental part in Chelsea's Champions League win over Munich in 2012. The Nigerian played all 120-minutes of the game, containing a possession dominant Bayern to just the one goal.
In theory, John Obi Mikel has a tough job in ousting either Ramires or Matic from the Chelsea side. This is without considering the likes of Marco Van Ginkel and Lewis Baker breaking into the first-team picture. As well as possible new signings on the way.
Nevertheless, if he was to do it, It wouldn't be the first-time the Nigerian has proven supporters and management wrong.
