Matthaus again insists Bundesliga striker will join Arsenal for €4.5m

The former Germany international has once more claimed that Josip Drmic will be heading to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

One of Arsene Wenger’s priorities in this summer’s transfer window will be to add striking competition to his squad, with strength in depth needed to support Olivier Giroud and Yaya Sanogo.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with Nurnberg striker Josip Drmic over the last six months, with the Swiss star scoring goals for fun in the Bundesliga.

Lotthar Matthaus had previously revealed that a move taking the 21-year-old to Arsenal was already arranged, stating that the forward’s wife was looking at apartments in London.

These claims were then rebuffed as Drmic stated that he isn’t even married – but still Matthaus will not take no for an answer.

The German legend has again today stated that the freescoring attacker will move to the Emirates Stadium once the transfer window reopens.

“Although now Dortmund, Gladbach and Leverkusen all have an interest, I’m saying: Josip Drmic will switch to Arsenal,” he told Blick.

“I made a mistake. I said his wife was already looking for apartments. The fact is that this is his girlfriend. Drmic has had a girlfriend for nine months. She has lived five or six months with him in Nuremberg.

“Look, if a journalist hears something, he researched and wrote that then its true. I’m kind of a journalist and have heard the rumour of a move to Arsenal. I then found out that this is true.”

Drmic is said to have a €4.5 million release clause in his contract, making him an affordable addition for Arsene Wenger’s men.

The attacker has netted 16 Bundesliga goals this season.
