How two Chelsea sagas may have changed by tomorrow morning

Chelsea Stamford Bride

Thibaut Courtois and Diego Costa have a great platform to perform on against Chelsea this evening.

Chelsea will be given another chance to take a close up look at two individuals this evening they have a deep and intense interest in.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will have a chance to demonstrate why he deserves to be number one ahead of Petr Cech at Chelsea while Diego Costa will lead Atletico Madrid’s attack against the team he could be playing for next season.

As things stand, Courtois is being tipped to sign a new contract before staying with Atletico for another season while there have been several reports over potential big money offers from Chelsea for striker Costa.

Not only will both players be performing in front of, and against, Jose Mourinho this evening, the Blues’ owner Roman Abramovich is likely to take his usual seat in the stands for this game.

Should Courtois and Costa both play out of their skins, that performance will have the ability to urge Chelsea on in terms of securing Courtois’ future and getting ahead in the race for Costa.

Should they both struggle at the Bridge, Mourinho could take it as a sign that Courtois isn’t ready to replace Cech and perhaps there are alternative striker targets that the club could be looking at this summer.

Courtois is the safer of the two simply for the fact that Chelsea already own him and the idea Mourinho could change his mind over the Belgian in a single game is extremely doubtful.

However, the Portuguese is likely to be in a constant battle mentally over a decision of what to do with Courtois next season.

He’s made it clear that he only wants to wear Chelsea colours as the club’s number one so if one more year on loan with Atletico is possible, that’s the safer bet.

In terms of Costa, an increased Chelsea desire to get him would be based on him having a blinder at Stamford Bridge, which increases the unfortunate chance that he could be the reason Chelsea don’t make it to the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Sit back and enjoy because it’s going to be fascinating to see whether perceptions of either are changed by tomorrow morning based on the game.
