Rumblings over Dejan Lovren’s future have emerged recently – who would be an ideal addition to the Old Trafford club’s rearguard.
Despite the ability and potential of the English duo, a third Southampton star seems like an ideal match for the outgoing Premier League champions.
Dejan Lovren has adjusted to the pace of the English game well in his first season at St Mary’s and has been a dominant force in the club’s defence this term.
With Nemanja Vidic and possibly Rio Ferdinand leaving Old Trafford in the summer, the Manchester club are in need of centre-halves – and the Croatian fits the bill.
Reports in the British press recently have stated that Lovren may well be eager to leave St Mary’s in the summer and if this is the case then United should pounce.
At 24 he has a lot of improving still to do, but already has good experience of playing international football and in the Champions League.
Lovren is a domineering figure that mixes confidence while on the ball with a no-nonsense approach when it is needed.
With United said to be considering the likes of Mats Hummels and others on the continent, Lovren would pose as a more affordable alternative that has already shown that he has all the attributes to be a real success in England.
His performances in the first half of the season were better than those of late, but alongside quality team-mates there is every reason to suggest that the Croat would not look out of place in the United defence next season.
