A round up of the latest news stories and transfer rumours about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.
Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana will reportedly turn down Manchester United to link up with Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool. The England star has been in fine form this season as speculation over his future grows. The Mirror has suggested that a bid of £20 million will be enough to land the player.
In another report, the Mail has suggested that the player has his ‘heart set’ on a move to Merseyside over Manchester.
Borussia Dortmund left-back Marcel Schmelzer says he’s aware of speculation linking him with a move away from the German giants. The left-back has been suggested as a target for Brendan Rodgers this summer.
“Of course I look forward to hearing things like that and it's nice when top clubs are interested in you. But I still have a contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2016 and I feel very, very good at BVB,” he told WAZ.
Another player Liverpool may struggle to get their hands on is Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman recently said he was intrigued by the prospect of a move to Anfield but Lyon chief Jean-Michel Aulas has played down the idea he could leave.
“Alexandre Lacazette? We are negotiating and we aim to extend his contract,” he told RMC according to talkSPORT.
Brendan Rodgers has piled the praise onto striker Luis Suarez following his collection of the PFA Player of the Year award. Rodgers says there’s a lot more to the front man than meets the eye.
“Probably what people don't see with Luis is that he's a very, very highly intelligent man off the field - and maybe sometimes in the past that intelligence on the field hasn't been seen so much - but that imagination is part of how we work,” Rodgers told the Telegraph.
Rodgers has also revealed his belief that Liverpool’s impending Champions League campaign is the main reason Suarez is still at the club amid rumours Real Madrid are toying with the idea of a £70 million bid.
“That was key to it (keeping Suarez here). That’s what he was missing - His loyalty in staying at Liverpool, to continue to fight for the club to get us there, is remarkable really. Hopefully he gets the rewards for that with those big European nights next season,” he told the press.
Suso says he still feels part of Liverpool as speculation over the youngster’s future grows. The midfielder has been on loan with Almeria in La Liga this season and has revealed he speaks with Rodgers on a regular basis.
“I speak with Brendan regularly, we are always in contact and I'm also in touch with other people at the club. For those reasons I still feel part of the club,” he’s quoted by the Mirror.
