Wenger wants more from Arsenal next season

Arsene Wenger In Emirates Press Conference

Some will have said that Champions League qualification and the possibility of winning a trophy at this stage of the season would have been good for Arsenal in August. But Wenger seemingly wants more.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said his side wants more from next season after last night’s 3-0 win over Newcastle United.

The win means that Arsenal are close to securing Champions League qualification for another season next term, as they currently five points clear of Everton with two games remaining. The Gunners are also heavy favourites to end their nine year trophy drought when they take on Hull City in the FA Cup final at Wembley next month.

The Gunners were knocked out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage of the competition by Bayern Munich, and at the same stage of the League Cup by Chelsea.

Wenger told the media after last night's match at the Emirates Stadium: “We have lost many players and we went to the FA Cup final having played against Liverpool, Everton, Tottenham and in the Champions League we went out against Bayern with 10 men so we have shown that we have potential but we want more next season and hopefully we can do it but let’s, first, finish well this season.”

It could have been so much more for Arsenal having been in the mix for the title by leading the Premier League for much of the season, before their 5-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield seemingly started a slide.

They have also had a bit of misfortune when it comes to injuries with big players missing crucial games. One only needs to look at how much better the side functions with the inclusion of Aaron Ramsey in midfield.

In the summer there is much to do. If Arsenal are seemingly struck down with injuries on several occasions, there will be a need for more players to come into their squad – some would say there is already a need for another striker to take the burden off Olivier Giroud, even if Lukas Podolski has seemingly found his shooting boots in recent weeks.

But there are other areas, and it will be interesting to see how much activity there is from Arsenal in the summer.
