Louis van Gaal is the “perfect” manager for Manchester United, according to German legend Franz Beckenbauer.
The Netherlands coach is said to be the frontrunner for the job at Old Trafford and will be available after the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil in the summer.
The 62-year-old is a hugely respected coach in the footballing community and has achieved success with Ajax, Barcelona, AZ and Bayern Munich.
Although Van Gaal’s no-compromise style and arrogance have earned him the nickname ‘Iron Tulip’, former Bayern president Beckenbauer believes that his illustrious career and record of working with top-class players are enough to make him the most suitable man to step in at Old Trafford.
‘I don't know if it's a rumour or if they're really trying to sign him, but if they agree with Louis, I think it would be a good part of the future. He won a lot of titles so he is experienced and he is ambitious. He has the personality. He has everything’.
Beckenbauer would know. Lest anyone forgets, Der Kaiser is one of the greatest defenders in the history of football and had a successful managerial career as well.
Beckenbauer won the 1974 World Cup with West Germany as a player and 16 years later won the tournament as a manager of his country. That was followed by the Ligue 1 title with Marseille in 1991, and the Bundesliga crown and the UEFA Cup with Bayern Munich in 1994 and 1996 respectively.
Many other respected ex-footballers and ‘people in the know’ have backed Van Gaal to be a success at United. All the Red Devils hierarchy now have to do is make their final decision.
