Luis Suarez has had a spell-bounding season, leaving behind him controversy and focusing on matters on the pitch.
The newly crowned PFA Player of the Year has been a key reason for Liverpool’s presence in the title race, as the Uruguayan has netted 30 goals for Brendan Rodgers’ men this term.
The Reds were under threat of losing their talisman last summer and if a report in the British press is to be believed, they may have to fight off a major suitor again at the end of the season.
The Sun claim that Real Madrid have made Suarez their number one transfer target this summer and will offer the Merseyside outfit £70 million to bring the tempestuous South American to the Spanish capital.
Suarez signed a new contract with Liverpool earlier in the campaign, which means that the club are in a much stronger position now than they were 12 months ago.
With the Reds also set to play Champions League football next term, Rodgers’ men will be confident of keeping their star man at Anfield.
Given that Gareth Bale’s transfer fee last summer was over £80 million, Liverpool fans will also believe that Suarez is worth more than the £70m touted – but will not want to see the ex-Ajax man leave the club.
