Tito Vilanova unfortunately lost his battle against throat cancer last week, which saw one of the most talented coaches of his generation fall victim to a disease which continues to take lives all over the world.
It was all too much for one Liverpool target, and several of his teammates, as Javier Mascherano broke down in tears following Barcelona’s 3-2 win against Villarreal over the weekend.
Vilanova was instrumental in helping the Argentine adjust to his new position in the Barcelona back four, after he went to Spain with a reputation as one of the best holding midfielders around.
His representatives recently admitted that he’s looking to move back to the Premier League but speculation rightly takes a back seat as he and other Barca players grieve the death of their former boss and friend.
Mascherano gave everything to help Barca sneak three points yesterday before the exhaustion and emotion of the occasion overtook him, as he was comforted by several other Barcelona stars.
