Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Suarez award - 'Hate him or love him, he deserves it!'

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has received the PFA's coveted Player of the Year Award.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been named as the PFA Player of the Year following a tremendous campaign, which has put Brendan Rodgers’ side within touching distance of the league title.

Suarez missed the first part of the season through suspension, which makes his 30 goals and 21 assists in 31 matches all the more remarkable.

He’s been effective in a range of different games and while he was kept quiet against Chelsea yesterday, he’s scored important goals against Liverpool’s rivals this season including a goal in the 3-0 win at Old Trafford.

He signed a new Liverpool contract earlier in the campaign, which was seemingly dependant on the Reds getting into the Champions League, which has now been secured.

There continues to be speculation linking the Uruguayan with a move away from the club, with Real Madrid apparently interested.

However, that’s all it is, speculation. It’s no surprise that clubs are interested in a player like Suarez because he’s a world class performer and someone who has proven to be directly responsible for Liverpool’s current league position.

Chelsea showed how to take someone like Suarez out of a game yesterday with negative tactics, but it’s important the striker finds ways to reinvent himself in the face of a similar approach from teams over the rest of this season, heading into the new campaign.

He’s simply been the best player around this season, impacting and turning more matches than anyone else in the division.

In the same way that Gareth Bale won so many matches for Spurs last season before winning the award, Suarez has won a lot of games for Liverpool but has also showed a more mature side, developing into a complete striker who will offload to others in good positions rather than going for personal glory.

Here’s what Liverpool fans made of his award on Twitter.
