News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.
Manchester United won 4-0 over Norwich at Old Trafford on Saturday in Ryan Giggs’ first game in charge as interim manager of the Red Devils.
A brace from Wayne Rooney opened the scoring and substitute Juan Mata scored a brace to ensure all three points for the Red Devils in the second half at Old Trafford.
Ryan Giggs received an emphatic reception from fans at Old Trafford in charge of his first game.
"All the years I walked out at Old Trafford, I've never felt like that," said Giggs, 40. "I felt 10 feet tall.”
The Welsh ace has been compared to Pep Guardiola by goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard whilst the BBC Match of the Day pundits gave their backing to the veteran midfielder who has been at the club for 29 years.
"Players don't go out on the football pitch to lose games," said the defender.
"We are sorry he has lost his job and we didn't get some of the results we would have liked to for him."
Manchester United have denied reports they have signed Louis van Gaal. Reports emerged last week that the Netherlands boss had agreed terms with the Red Devils and whilst the club insisted they had not signed a new manager to permanently replace sacked coach David Moyes, they did not deny the links in the press with the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach.
"We have not signed a new manager," United said in a statement. "When we have something to report, we will announce it."
Club legend and former captain Roy Keane has poured cold water on rumours of a coaching role at Old Trafford, implying his relationship with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson was unlikely to be repaired.
“People keep asking me about other jobs, I've got a job and I'm very happy with my job,” explained the Irishman.
When asked whether there would be a time when he talks with Ferguson again he responded:
"Not sure, probably not but I've said that about other people."
In transfer news, United are linked with Schalke defender Sead Kolasinac who has revealed he has ‘an offer on the table’ from United.
"Yes, I have an offer from Manchester United, but I will not hurry with the decision. I have to see what Schalke think about it,” the left back told Bosnian newspaper Dnevni avaz.
Meanwhile, the Express reports that Van Gaal wants Toni Kroos and Marco Reus to join Manchester United this summer.
The Guardian suggests Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman could remerge, as a target for the Red Devils should the Netherlands boss take charge at Old Trafford.
