Tottenham latest, fitness concerns over winger, Friedel hits back over negativity

A selection of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Monday evening.

Tottenham have a fitness concern over Andros Townsend after the winger put on twitter that he underwent an MRI scan today.

Townsend showed some early season promise before picking up a hamstring injury, and hasn’t really rediscovered that same kind of form. Any serious problem would deal a huge blow to him being part of England’s World Cup squad in Brazil.

Any hopes the club may have had of signing striker Josip Drmic from Bundesliga side Nurnberg appear to have faded with TalkSport picking up on reports in Germany suggesting he will sign for Bayer Leverkusen.

The Swiss international has scored 16 goals this season, and will move for around £3.7m. Arsenal were also said to be interested.

Goalkeeper Brad Friedel has told TalkSport he doesn’t understand all the negativity surrounding Tottenham, saying things are not as negative as people think at White Hart Lane.

He said: “There has been a lot of talk of negativity but if we win our last two games we will equal our record points tally for the Premier League, just as we did last season, so I don’t see that as a negative season. “

Spurs won 1-0 at the weekend in a difficult trip to the Britannia Stadium where they overcame Stoke City.

Danny Rose got the goal and he told the club’s website: “I spoke to the management team last week and they said they want to see me in the opposition box a bit more and having a few more chances at goal, so it’s nice to get on the scoresheet and even better we got the three points.”
