With Brendan Rodgers’ men guaranteed Champions League football next term at the very least, the Merseyside outfit will be looking to bolster their ranks this summer.
The Mirror have today suggested that the Anfield team are running the rule over Cardiff captain Steven Caulker and will launch a bid to sign the former Tottenham man in the summer.
Rodgers knows the England international well from their year together at Swansea, where Caulker impressed while on loan from Spurs.
Liverpool already have Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger, Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure in their ranks, but a number of these centre-halves’ futures seem to be the topic of speculation on a regular basis.
Caulker is facing the very real possibility of suffering relegation with Cardiff this season and is sure to have a long list of suitors if he is to become available.
Initially this move seems to make sense. Caulker’s performances for a team struggling at the bottom of the table have been excellent, with the defender looking more than ready to play for a top side.
For Liverpool, more fixtures next term will mean the need for additional strength in depth, with Toure the one likely to make way if Caulker was to be signed.
