Despite all the pre-match focus on the prospective selection policy that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho would adhere to when his Blues take on free-scoring Liverpool at Anfield today, Sunday, the Portuguese has still managed to introduce fringe squad players who, combined, are still worth more than their Red counterparts when factoring in transfer fees alone.
For Brendan Rodgers, it was very much a case of a standard XI… his most comfortable starters, albeit with Daniel Sturridge on the bench as Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling, Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Leiva, Joe Allen, Steven Gerrard, Martin Skrtel and Simon Mignolet start, amongst others.
Mourinho, meanwhile, selected Tomas Kalas, Mohamed Salah, Andre Schurrle and Demba Ba while familiar faces such as Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, John Obi Mikel and Nemanja Matic all feature.
Renowned Arsenal fan believes that Mourinho's selection policy and it's domination of the headlines was all part of the Chelsea manager's masterplan as it puts all the pressure on Liverpool to perform.
Chelsea have £200m+ players on pitch/bench but everyone saying Mourinho's 'given up'. All the pressure now on Liverpool..as he wanted.— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) April 27, 2014
