Cristian Tello has been linked with Liverpool for quite some time. And reports this weekend claimed the Barcelona forward-cum-winger was finally set for a Nou Camp departure.
However, while Liverpool’s name was swiftly thrown back into the ring, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo has focused on the claims from Spanish newspaper Sport that FC Porto are keen on the 22-year-old.
Tello has a contract at Barcelona until the summer of 2018, and yet he continues to struggle for game-time for the La Liga giants, the vast majority of his 19 league appearances this season coming from the bench.
As a result, Sport claims the former Portuguese champions are keen on bringing Tello in this summer, despite the continued interest of Liverpool.
Given the player’s favoured positions he would surely receive a considerable amount of chances under Brendan Rodgers, his flexibility such that he could be used as another striking option but also operate from the left-wing – an area Rodgers is heavily tipped to strengthen having previously been linked with Yevhen Konoplyanka and Antoine Griezmann.
If the latest claims are true and Tello is finally set to leave Barca and end a fairly long transfer saga in its own right, it will be up to Rodgers to decide if he still wants a young man who could flourish given the chance.
