A select round-up of morning news relating to Liverpool

Liverpool face Chelsea this afternoon in arguably the biggest game of the season. A win for the Reds would send them tantalisingly close to their first Premier League title, but a defeat and both the Blues and Manchester City would be right back in the race.

Speaking in the build-up to the game, Reds defender Glen Johnson told reporters in quotes later published by Goal, “We have got to worry about ourselves and concentrate on our own job.

And if we play like we did against Manchester City, we can beat anyone.”

Few would disagree with that statement, but replicating that performance against Jose Mourinho’s side will be an almighty ask for Brendan Rodgers’ men.

Of the fact that Chelsea are still in with a (slim) shout of Premier League glory and within touching distance of the Champions League final, Johnson said, “We don’t know what their priority will be or what Mourinho is thinking. You try to ignore all that.”

In transfer news, the Express claims that Liverpool and Tottenham are both interested in signing Southampton pair Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana.

Both players – rated at a combined value of £50million – have been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, but the report claims that uncertainty over their new manager could see the pair opt for alternative destinations.
