Chelsea morning news: Mourinho ill for Liverpool and £40m double swoop

Mourinho Press Conference Still

All the latest news and gossip from the past 24 hours at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have been hit by illness ahead of the Liverpool game - with Jose Mourinho coming down with a bug.

He travelled north on his own steam as he did not want to spread his illness among the squad ahead of the Liverpool game.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been commenting on Liverpool midfielder Steve Gerrard - and says his England international team-mate deserves a Premier League title.

However the two face off in the Premier League this afternoon and with Chelsea still in with a shot of winning the league themselves he is not planning on doing him any favours this afternoon:

“Stevie will go down as a great player no matter what. He has won pretty much everything there is going. He will be striving to win the league because that is the one little space in his trophy cabinet. As a player he deserves that – but there is no sentiment from us. We want to win it. We respect the fact that Stevie is a great player, but I don’t think that he lives or dies on whether they win the title this year or not."

Luis Suarez is expected to win the PFA Player of the Year this evening - but no Chelsea players will be attending.

With The Blues playing this afternoon in Liverpool and then having a game against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday he is not keen on any of his players attending - however injured Eden Hazard might just make an appearance.

A couple of transfer rumours today - with Everton and Juventus stars being linked.

Everton defender John Stones, who has been a sensation at centre back in the absence of Phil Jagielka, is being linked with a £20 million move to London.

A lot will depend on his situation with his agent - who he is reportedly set to break a contract with.

Meanwhile they are also being linked with a mega move for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.

The Chilean is said to be tired of Italian football and could be after a fresh challenge this summer.

The £20 million bid quoted however will not be enough to get the 26-year-old.
